Re: system wont boot up after a bios update

Sounds like you have flashed the wrong bios, or something has happened during the update which has made it not take properly. You can't RMA the board if this happens due to it being down to user error.

Best bet is to get in touch with Asus directly fully explaining what you done to update the bios (process and bios version) and they will most likely be able to help you better.

Re: system wont boot up after a bios update

hi ferral thx for ur reply my mobo seems to work using my corsair ram.I flashed my bios using the latest drivers but i did the wrong procedure.

BIOS update file for P5KC (Version 1001)
*Please make sure to flash this BIOS 1001 using the bundled AFUDOS tool in the compressed file instead of EZFlash*.
1.Support new CPUs. Please refer to our website at: ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support-
2.Enhance compatibility with certain memory module.
does anyone know how to update bios using AFUDOS tool.I dont have a floppy drive.thx

Re: system wont boot up after a bios update

If your mobo will boot from a USB flash drive (I haven't looked to see if it can) then boot from that. Otherwise buy a floppy drive for under £4.00

and just connect it temporarily while you re-flash the bios.

(If your house is prone to power failures, and you have a UPS, make sure that the UPS is connected to the computer as a power failure during the re-flash process carries a high probability of bricking your system)

Re: system wont boot up after a bios update

You will be able to boot directly from your windows disc, even if you have an old 98 disc that will do provided you have a FAT file system. If you have a NTFS file system you will need to boot with either NTS4DOS or the mentioned Windows disc.

I agree with PeterB also, put the required files onto a USB flash drive and make sure it is accesible either from boot or from a Dos prompt. You could also create a bootable CD (Use a rewritable CD) with the relevant files on and do it that way.

If you can get it to go into Windows download the latest version of the Asus update tool directly from the Asus support site.

I don't know whether this is relevent or not but have you tried fully powering off the system yet? By that I mean actually unplugging the power lead all together.

I'm had a recurring problem with my P5B in that whenever I make a major change in the Bios or flash it it won't restart properly, it just powers up and then stops, not POST, not even a video signal. The way I get around it is to unplug the system for 30s or so and then boot and it works fine.

Re: system wont boot up after a bios update

There are problems with thie version 1001 bios. See the Asus forums for more info. I have downgraded back to 0903 Bios. You should do the same.

Only way to downgrade is using an older version of Asus update. Download it using the link below. Download the 0903 bios file form Asus support. When you start Asus Update select Options and choose BIOS downgradeable before flashing 0903 bios.

Did you use the Windows based flash tool, or did you flash from the boot screen? The Windows flash tool is... carp. It's really, really bad.

That said, on my P5B Deluxe there's an option on the boot screen which allows me to flash the BIOS from there. If things go really badly wrong I believe the CD that comes with it is bootable, and that you can boot from it to re-flash the original BIOS too.

It will work as I did it. There is no other way to downgrade after updating to version 1001.
