Asus p5kc case front panel audio not working..
Hi everyone, i have got a problem with my Asus p5kc mobo.My front panel headphone and microphone audio connectors are not working.I have connected them correctly to the mobo and the Asus onboard Realtek sofware detects and displays a message that a jack has been plugged in! But i am not getting any sound output in my headphones when plugged into the front panel of the case(headphone connectors behind the case works).
This is really frustrating. The realtek onboard software is very dodgy. My 5.1 speakers failed to any produce sound as the default settings on the software was set badly.I have updated the bios to a later version but this doesnt help.I cant afford to buy an another pci sound card at the moment.
Hexus is a great community.I always have my pc problems sorted out in less than a day.I would like to thank everyone for thier help.
kind regards

I don't have your exact board, so this makes any suggestions I offer generic.
1) It is most probably software orientated if you are getting a message that a jack has been detected. Perhaps you have muted something?
When you say you are using 5.1 speakers, are you using some sort of digital output? If so, then normally sound cards cannot output both digital and analog at the same time. Therefore you would have to disable the 5.1 system in order to get the front audio to work.
I have this issue with my pc, which is why I use both onboard audio and a PCI card. The card runs the 5.1 AV kit, and the onboard audio does the mic and headphones.
As a workaround you can buy an extension cable to get your headphones/mic to plug into the back of the machine
Another thing to try is to reverse the connectors you plugged into your mobo headers. Just because it looks like everything is connected the right way round, does not mean that this is so. I've had various components like that inverted at the time of manufacture. eg, the paint displayed the +/1 the wrong way round, or the wires running to the front ports were soldered the wrong way round etc.

I have a p5k premium, i cant get my mic to work but the speaker does. The software is not very good.
