    Help with Median PC please

Hi peeps, i'm new to your forum but will be on it more often as i'm going to build a new rig soon! Today though I'm taking a look at a mates PC its a Median Desktop PC MT6 with a MS-7091 motherboard, the problem is if you turn on the main power button the fans all kick in (cpu, graphics card & psu) but there is no life to anything else! The l.e.d's on the main button do not eluminate, and the hard drive is not active. Nothing! Just power to the fans? I'm thinking the motherboard is dead? Am i missing something?

    Any ideas for fault finding?

What is on the display? Nothing? Did you check the Power to the HDDs?

Hi mate, there's nothing on the screen. It just remains in sleep mode? I metered all the power coming from the psu and its giving all the correct voltages?

Re: Help with Median PC please

Had you done anything internally to the PC prior to this happening? If so, what?

Did you check the PSU voltages with it connected to anything?

My first thought would be to suspect the PSU, what make is it?

Hi mate, i thought this initially when my mate first told me about the fault. But after seeing it now i'm a bit confused?

I metered the atx socket along with the general power connectors, all seem to be giving the stated voltages. Not sure on the make of the psu as its at work(my day off), its the standard item which came with the pc.

edit to add: no other parts have been added to my knowledge, i will txt him now

Re: Help with Median PC please

Was the ATX socket connected to the PC mobo at the time? The reason I ask is that teh PSU might be delivering the correct voltages under no-load conditions, but as soon as it is connected to a substantial load, the output collapses.

I metered it in both conditions? I'm stuck between a psu or motherboard it would seem?

If it was the mobo, I would expect the drives to spin up (unless the mobo is dragging down the supply so much that it prevents the drives from spinning up. One way to check would be to run the PSU with the drives connected, but not the mobo. However I would be inclined to get a replacement PSU - it is the most likely failure point. A 300W psu wouild probably be sufficient (but you can probably get the specs of the original from it)

There is one thing i noticed yesterday when checking it, it has a cd rw drive and a dvd drive but only the cd rw drive ejects when the power is on, but not the dvd?

I'll swap the psu and let you know how i got on.

    Thanks peter
