ATI Catalyst - Application Instal: MSI Service Error!!!!

what the hell does this mean, i can't find anything about it on the net wotsoever!

Everytime i try and install catalyst 8.3 on my comp, i have a hd3870 btw, wen it gets to install...it always come up with "Application Install: MSI Service Error". And also "Driver Install the INF file was not found" has started to appear......

Ive tried driver sweeper, running in safe mode...this is the catalyst off ati's website also, i have d/l the correct version, (64bit vista)...i just don't know what the hell to do...HELP!!!

the Microsoft installer service is broke or it cant find a file. try re downloading the file. there is a chance it could be corrupted. there is a re distributable you can get of the Microsoft site. worst comes to worst you will have to repair windows.

Don't know what the message means but unfortunately I have read quite a bit recently about people having problems with 8.3. I personally would try and return back to 8.2 and see how things run.

The last time though I had ATI driver problems it wouldn't allow me re-install an older version or repair windows either through the installation disk or system restore. I ended up formatting. Sorry... do keep trying though.

Is it not because you don't have the .NET Framework installed from Windows Update?

Got it all sorted now guys

Somehow the microsoft service installer became corrupt, and microsoft don't do a re distributable for MSI 4.0, because its a service or sumthin

So i had to repair vista with the installation disc....n now evrythin is allrite....the card i got is still naf tho....don't get a Triplex HD3870!!!

It can only overclock to 801Mhz before it dies on you, it's limited because it's been made more a more compact version me thinks, the memory goes up to about 2500-2600 tho...
