    Web cam issues/free track issues

Bought myself a webcam (the vx1000 lifecam) and it says on the box that it's compatable with vista.....but it's not working.

I go into the SW with it and when your supposed to get video footage of what it's looking at, i get 1 still image that only has an image in the top 1/3 of the screen and the rest is black and red smearing lines accross the other 2/3.

Thats when the program doesn't crash.
Tried vidcap test program too but that crashed aswell.

Have treid re-installing a number of tmes including just pluging the usb in without the drivers from the disc, tried the drivers from MS website too.

Nothing works, i either get the image described above before it crashes or it just crashes.

Has anybody got these vx1000 lifecams to work with vista 64, anybody got any ideas?

It's still brand new and unmolested so can return but when it says on the box, supports vista??????

What other web cams have people got working with vista 64? any from this list:

    Webcam compatibility

Mine works fine on Vista 64.

    You using these drivers?

    Try changing USB slot.

    Otherwise I would say RMA.

    Re: Web cam issues.

Tried those drivers, and tried 3 different usb slots on and off the mainboard.

I will take it back but although i trust yours works i would like an alternative thats also cheap and in the compatibility list for freetrack.

    Re: Web cam issues.

Yeh. Apart from you have to fiddle about to get the auto exposure off. However it is pretty simple to do

    Refer to my thread

    Hope this helps,

    Re: Web cam issues.

I had these problems with my Logitech Communicate STX.

Thought it was knackered so threw it in the draw. Might have to have another go later to see.

I bought a lifecam vx3000 and got a dud - it would keep losing and reconnecting as if the usb wire was loose or something. I phoned Microsoft and after taking the part ID No. they simply sent me a replacement free of charge with no need to return the original - better than arranging return shipping for a replacement from the online supplier I got it from.

Anyway, Microsoft's support really was excellent (much to my pleasant surprise).

    Re: Web cam issues.

    Problem solved.....sorta.

The webcam won't work with 4 gig of ram, so i've taken a couple of sticks out and all is working well.
I remember that PES 2008 wouldn't work with 4 gig of ram and there was a hotfix for it, is there somthing similar i could use to allow this webcam to work with 4 gig of ram?
I don't wan't to be pulling ram out and putting it back in anytime i want to use freetrack.

It also says that to get 30 fps in freetrack from the vx1000 you need the program 'enable button' to force off auto exposure, but the only link i can find is faulty.

Ok, have found enable button and disabled auto exposure, but free track still gives me 20fps, and the tracking is useless @ the mo, any ideas?
