Oh dear. I actually managed to short my 680i board when I first installed it. The board survived but the graphics card got fried.
I did RMA the card though as I had never seen it working so couldn't tell whether I had done it or not![]()

well ya see the thing is, the hole's there, it's just got a bloody transistor/resistor right below the bloody thing!
so it should have some kind of warning.
but if they decide that they won't RMA it, then does anyone have a cheap motherboard, Q6600, PC2 6400 and PCI-E capable?
being able to OC my Q6600 to 3GHz would be nice aswell.. seeing as my Scythe Mine arrived before.
open to offers..
Well it depends. What caused you to drop it? Did you trip on something outside the shop that belonged to the shop?

i've tried taking pics, but my camera is just plain awful!
i'd reckon it is maybe repairable.. it's like 2 of those VERY tiny resistor/transistor things in the top corner, 1 end of the soldering has blackened. but it still powers up. would you have any clue how to set the macro mode on a Praktica DCZ 6.8? 6MP camera, it's not a brilliant camera but it's not bad.. i'll see what i can do about getting a photo tomorrow when i get home. (i'm at my mam's right now)
has it anything to do with ISO? metering? white balance? exposure?
i've got some skill in soldering but never done anything precise and pin-point like what i'd need to fix this.
any tips and help would be good.
maybe a phonecall tomorrow or MSN?
i'll ring you.. wouldn't wanna cost you for your advice
edit: i've been ordered to bed now, gotta get up at 8ish to go to the doctors about my foot, maybe eventually get the good to go on it, broke it a while back and it's still not right
shall catch up with this when i get back from the doctors, night everyone

Got to say that's the funniest thing I've read all week but lesson learned; don't screw your motherboard
I doubt you'd be able to RMA it as it's going to be pretty obvious it's a user created fault (maybe fill it with some papier-mâché and colour it in, failing that use some bog roll and plead insanitary).
The mobo manual usually warns you which mounting holes need care - but there isn't anything to beat a eyeballing first - however it is easy to be wise after the event!

Been helped or just 'Like' a post? Use the Thanks button!
My broadband speed - 750 Meganibbles/minute
it's very difficult to spot!
i've had to get my magnifying glass out and know exactly where to look, my dad's managed to file away the black on the soldering and it looks spot on, but still doesn't boot, so maybe i can do a bit of trickery and get a replacement
City Link are coming to pick it up tomorrow.
so wish me luck![]()
sounds just like faulty ram dude.

This is bunny and friends. He is fed up waiting for everyone to help him out, and decided to help himself instead!
Matty, tbh this is the first case ive heard of a capacitor or resisitor being so close to a hole as to that it gets damaged when installing it into a case. So in all honesty, id assume you have either used a screw which has a head which is to big or put the thing in the wrong hole.
If the picture I have found on google, is the correct board, as stated in your my system, am assuming you mean the top right where the capacitor are, even so, theres enough space to fit a screw without shorting, especially if you use a screw supplied with the motherboard, as these heads sit on the silver ring and dont make contact with the actualy motherboard.
- Why should he wish you good luck if your trying to cheat a company? He makes a point, people who cheat the companies, make it harder for people with legitimate issues to have them accepted.thanks for the good luck pal
- Thats abit unnecessary tbh, he wasnt rude towards you, simply stating his opinion.screw you too
dunno about the red PCB, been commented on before, but that's what came.
and sorry about the pic quality, my camera's just plain awful.
looks as if there is more then enough space for a standard motherboard screw to fit there without touching anything else.
believe me, there isn't, it goes pretty much RIGHT upto the edge of the hole on the motherboard.
and it doesn't have any of those protective bits around the hole either.
i know i probably should've looked, but you just expect a hole to be a screw hole.
i'll try and get a better picture.
