New Ram Problems

So once again, games started crashing. Ran a memtest+ v2.01 found some problems. However I really want to know what could be causing this. I mean this has happened to me several times now. My computer is not overclocked, the voltages are right.

So faulty motherboard slots? Faulty PSU? I'm lost. I know that my sister turned my computer off when it was updating windows. You know vista is shutting down or starting up and it comes up with a three stage process. Could that of caused a problem?

Therefore, it's reasonable to conclude that your memory is faulty....

As to what caused it, all things mechanical and electrical fail in time, some sooner than others. Hopefully your memory is still within the warrenty period and you can get replacements. If not, time to get some new RAM.

Yeah but I sent back the ram about 2 months ago. Will get it replaced under warranty.

Is it the 4gig listed in your system specs?
If so, have you raised the Northbridge voltage?
This is commonly needed when running 4*1gig....or just generally 4 gig these days.

Yeah, didn't know that. Mine is on auto. I would assume it would be done automatically. Will look into it. Need to find what the voltage is first tho.

Why on earth did you think NB voltage was your RAM voltage ???? Put that back to normal ASAP!

Under your BIOS, go to uGuru Utility -> Voltages Control -> DDR2 Voltages and increase that to 2v.

Also make sure on the previous page, if it's not at "Auto", that the DDR2 ratio is set to whatever value produces 800MHz (on mine it's 1:1.20 (800) as my FSB is 333MHz)

Do a forum search mate. Its practically a requirement when running 4 sticks, and sometimes when running 4gig even from 2 sticks

Ok, I found the faulty stick. I swear it came from the same slot that had the faulty stick the last time.

So can the memory slot be faulty in some way?
Also if there is a power cut, will components such as RAM get damaged every time?

Some boards have issues with overvolting the RAM and killing it, but I'm sure it overvolts all the RAM rather than one particular slot. Yes power cuts can damage components if you have no surge protection. You can get a surge protector for a few quid:

I meant more on his board that it's not called NB voltage and is labelled DDR2 voltage...

Setting your NB voltage to 1.55 is pretty close to the max, and may well fry the board..
