    Nvidia Performance Problems

Well, i've been having this problem since i built this machine. and i'm also still in the trouble shooting phase trying to figure out whats going on so i'm open to suggestions on whats going on.. Since i built this rig

    Abit IP35-E
    Nvidia 8600 GT
    SB X-Fi
Intel Pentium Core 2 Duo 2.4Ghz
    1GB RAM

I've been having alot of issues mostly while playing WoW, and also C&C3. After 1 or 2 hours of gameplay i start seeing odd graphics and missing textures in game. while this happens during WoW I can close it and just restart the game, then after awhile things run fine. During C&C3 when this happened while i was playing C&C it locked up my computer and automatically restarted windows.

I havent been able to log it with Nvidia Monitor But i have logged and screen shotted performance while playing WoW using the NVIDIA monitoringview tool. But im wondering if theirs a way to get it too monitor voltages too since those are not being reported.

    one of them is here

    the other is here

and the event log is here

I'm also wondering afew things. (forgive me, im new too nvidia so i dont really know that much)

1.whats the normal temperature nvidia cards normally run at during gaming? Mine idles at around 50 degrees and usually during gaming i get about 60 or so. so im not sure if that would be the cause or not.

    2. O've noticed the high memory usage during gaming, the other thing im wondering about is if that 1GB of ram i have just isnt cutting it

    3. If its not the video card, im wondering if my heat sink / CPU Fan on my board just isnt doing the job and causing things to overheat since im not able to see either of those temperatures. the heat sink is stock but i replaced the CPU fan with just a standard one i bought at altex.

I know im just grasping at straws here but im still in the trouble shooting phase and trying to gather info, so any help / advise would be greatly appreciated

    Re: Nvidia Performance Problems

I just typed out a long reply and lost it

Top and bottom of it is it's likely memory corruption. Either on the graphics card or your RAM. Likely to be the graphics card memory that is at fault.

It will probably need returning for a replacement if it's within warranty (assuming you're not overclocking, if you are return to default settings and see if you still have problems)

    Re: Nvidia Performance Problems

Yea i dont over clock, it's been at default settings. i was just using Ntune to monitor temperatures. its still odd tho cause the card's piratically bran new. i've only had it for about two months so is strange if it is that. i dunno, i'm thinking of just replacing my ram stick since i was thinking of upgrading to 2G's anyway. This whole thing is just odd though since i mostly see this problem directly while i play WoW.

    Re: Nvidia Performance Problems

If it's just one game then clean out your drivers and try different ones. If it's happening in several titles then try underclocking your graphics card using nTune.

    Re: Nvidia Performance Problems

Hmm.. Well i just did a test run with C&C3. I was able to do a skirmish for about 2 and a half hours straight on end. i wasnt running any Anti lassing or anything though. Im normally able to play oblivion with AA At x4 , V-Sync on and Distance viewing on..everything for atleast an hour and a half without problems. so i dunno maybe its just WoW issues mixed with lag problems?

    edit

oh yeah, what do you look for in dxdiags to see if the video card drivers are actually corrupted. I'll probably end up doing a roll back to the drivers that where on the disc if that is the case..

    Re: Nvidia Performance Problems

Only can really be one of two things:

    1. Heat
    2. Drivers

Seeing as how it only happens after your have been gaming for a while its almost certainly overheating.

1.whats the normal temperature nvidia cards normally run at during gaming? Mine idles at around 50 degrees and usually during gaming i get about 60 or so. so im not sure if that would be the cause or not.
    60 degrees C is fine.
Unfortunately though, maybe the HS/Fan isnt in correct contact with the chip or memory. Thats probably why the overheat is occuring.

    Re: Nvidia Performance Problems

the video card or the CPU? to be honest i can see that happening to both of em' but if it is both, i'd like to be sure.. cause right now i can only afford to replace either the CPU / heatsink or Video card if i go through new egg. is their a way to setup ntune or something too monitor CPU and memory temperature / voltage so i can be sure?

    Re: Nvidia Performance Problems

hmm.. yeah i think my video card is defiantly overheating. i just looked around at it during gaming, felt alot of heat coming from the card. maybe the fan on its just not working correctly, i dunno. im wondering if it would make a differance if i just replace the fan or a GPU / RAM cooler like this, but im not sure if this particular cooler will fit since its for the 8800.

    edit

but the reason why im thinking of getting that RAM / GPU Cooler instead is because the My 8600 GT costs just as much as that cooler does so i figgured since that cooler would increase performance it would be a better idea, im just worried about if my memory on the graphics card itself is damaged due to the overheating... i dont know if theirs a way for me to be sure.

    edit

    yes.. moving on.

Do you realise that cooler is for water cooling?
