No Input Signal - Display problem.
Hello there guys. I've been told you're good at solving problems/mysteries...( crime too?)
So, here's my conundrum.
I recently purchased some new hardware. Today I recieved the following items and stuck them in the Computer.
1 x Zalman CNPS8700-LED CPU Fan Socket 478/754/775/939/940
1 x Sharkoon Mini Green CCFL Starter inc. 2 x 10cm CCFL & Dual Invertor
1 x Corsair 2048MB TwinX XMS2 6400 C4 DDR2 4-4-4-12 800Mhz Memory Kit
1 x XpertVision GeForce 8800 GT 512MB DDR3, PCI-E, Windows Vista Ready
1 x Corsair PSU 520W CMPSU-520HX ATX12V 2.2/EPS12V 2.91
1 x Sharkoon Luminous Fan Grill with RGB LED for any 8cm System Fan
1 x Sharkoon Silent Eagle 1000 8cm System Fan, 1000rpm, 19.3 cfm
1 x EL720 Aluminum Illuminated keyboard
Now then, I installed all the parts with help from my brother. It all looks nice and shiny and clean ( and green) .
So I turn on the computer, all starts up fine with no BEEPS killing my eardrum, BUT....
....The monitor gives me this message "No Input Signal, Monitor going to Sleep."
I thought it may have been the graphics card, so I plugged the monitor into the Motherboard input. Switched it on, same error again. I then took the Graphics card out and tried with the Motherboard input again. No luck again.
The out puts on the Graphics cards are DVI, but I am using a VGA cable with an adapter. The motherboard display input is VGA. The monitor is a 2 year old~ 17" TFT LCD.
I have also ordered a Belinea o.display 2_22" wide PC Monitor. Should arrive soon.
Before I ordered all these parts, I was having a problem with my nvidia display drivers. "nvldddmkm.sys" Was the exact file. Apparantly it's a world wide problem reported by 1000's of people. I could only run the computer in safe mode other wise I would get to the Windows log on screen and Put in my password, then on loading the desktop the screen would go black.
I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit.
Sorry for the length of my post, but I've tried all I can think of.
Cheers you guys, I look forward to a helpful reply.
Thanks,
Jonathong.
Re: No Input Signal - Display problem.
So the jist of it is that it won't POST if I'm correct? :)
How much trouble shooting have you done? what's the exact beep code and what does it translate into for that board/BIOS? :)
If that's foreign to you, just say so and I'll explain a bit more :)
Re: No Input Signal - Display problem.
I don't know know what a beep code is, and I don't really know anything about BIOS. :stupid:
And what do you mean by POST?
Re: No Input Signal - Display problem.
When a computer powers on it does something called a 'POST'. This is a Power On Self Test. If its successful, you will end up with the BIOS screen showing the drives and the option to press delete to go in and change settings.
If you are not getting that far, ie. no signal to the monitor, you have a hardware problem of some sort.
The BIOS should be making 'beeps' at you. This is actually the computers way of telling you what's wrong. It does this by giving you a series of short, long, or a mixture of both beeps. Based off how many beeps it gives you, and what they are, you can work out which part its having an issue with.
So the next question is - how many beeps do you get, and are they short or long ones? :)
Re: No Input Signal - Display problem.
Ah yes, I see.
Well, I am getting no beeps what so ever.
Re: No Input Signal - Display problem.
Ok, start with the basics
1) Does the Graphics card have power?
2) Do you have both motherboard power leads connected, gonna take a stab in the dark that it'll be a 20 pin and 4pin connection since you don't have your mobo listed.
3) When you tried without the Gfx card, did you have it unplugged from the PCIe slot?
4) You should get a single beep at the end of the POST sequence, if you don't try removing a couple of sticks of RAM.
Re: No Input Signal - Display problem.
The graphics card has power.
Both motherboard leads? Yes it is a 20pin.
I tried with the graphics card removed completely.
There is no beeping what-so-ever, My 2 RAM sticks were in Slots 3 and 4, so I moved them to 1 and 2. But no change.
I took out my old 2 RAM sticks as they were a different speed. Shall I try using my two old ones?
Cheers again.
Re: No Input Signal - Display problem.
Try with one stick of RAM.
20 pin PSU? A lot of modern day boards now require a 24pin based unit sadly. Whats the exact model?
Re: No Input Signal - Display problem.
The Motherboard is a ASrock AM2NF6G-VSTA
w w w. ocworkbench.com/2006/asrock/AM2NF6G-VSTA/g1 . htm
EDIT: Using only 1 stick of RAM, did not make a difference.
Thanks;.
Re: No Input Signal - Display problem.
Oh great, an ASRock - they are hell to work with when they go wrong :P
What PSU is it mate?
Re: No Input Signal - Display problem.
Corsair 520W!
Check the 1st post for more detail of the model.
Re: No Input Signal - Display problem.
Oh yes, sorry missed that!
Good PSU so it shouldn't be that.
Next step is to build it outside the case.
Insert nothing but the CPU (with HSF), RAM and use the onboard graphics to see if you can bring it to life.
Re: No Input Signal - Display problem.
ok. I'll report back later or in the morning,
Thanks for all your help so far.
:D
Cheers, Jonathong.
Re: No Input Signal - Display problem.
Sorted!
I realized why it wasn't beeping, no processor to make it beep.
So i took it all out and reconnected the processor. Worked like a charm.
Thanks anyway for all the help.

You forgot to install the CPU? :D
