Boot Up Problems - No Display.
Hello,
From what I've seen in other threads, some guys on this forum are good at support, so I thought I should turn to you for help!
I've bought a new set of hardware recently, assembled it all with the PSU and it powers up without any problems. The LED's on the Motherboard all light up to say the components work, however, nothing seems to appear on the screen?
Note: There is no OS or data on the hard drives but the OS Disk is in the CD Drive.
So I was wondering what should I do? I've already unplugged everything, taken it out and put it back in etc etc. Nothing seems to make it work! Any suggestions?
Here are the specs:
Motherboard: Asus Maximus Formula (Not ROG one).
CPU - Intel E2160
Memory - 2x2GB Corsair Dominator (PC2-8500
GFX Card - XFX 9800 GX2.
PSU - Coolermaster 850W "Real Power"
Hard Drive 1 - WD 150GB RaptorX
Hard Drive 2 - WD 500GB Caviar.
Thanks for any help in advance!
Re: Boot Up Problems - No Display.
take 1 DIMM out & see if it will POST with only 1.
You do have both the 20/24-pin & 4/8-pin PSU connectors plugged in plus of course the PCI-E connectors to the gfx card?
Re: Boot Up Problems - No Display.
I presume the cpu and case fans all spin up and there are no error beeps?
First thing I would do is to clear the cmos. (see manual if necessary) Then make sure everything is connected (it's easy to miss something) and use only one stick of ram as Buff says and one hard drive.
Press and hold down the "insert key" when you power on and when you see the motherboard splash screen release it and press delete to get into bios and from there you can set the board to boot from your DVD drive to install an OS.
If this doesn't work I'd look to build it outside of the case to start with.
Re: Boot Up Problems - No Display.
Right, I tried all those methods, and nothing seems to work either!
Still loads up with all the fans turning, no beeps, all the LED's are lit to say that the component is recognized, but still, nothing on the screen! All the correct power cables are connected to the sockets, 1 8-Pin CPU one, 24-Pin ATX Power and 6 & 8-Pin PCIE connectors to the GFX Card.
However, on the little LCD Poster you get with the Mobo it says, "CMOS ERR", which I can only presume is a CMOS Error. I've checked the CMOS switch which is placed near the PCIE slots, and it's enabled.
Also, I've already built it outside of the case, as the mobo tray is removable.
Any other ideas? Thanks for the help!
Edit: Could it be because of the 9800GX2? Being a new card n' all, BIOS may not be setup for it? Should I try another GFX Card?
Re: Boot Up Problems - No Display.
having the exactly the same problem as Tom.F
Monitor just goes straight into Standby mode when powered on.
All system fans cpu fan gcard fans come on. Mobo and Gcard light are green.
No post sounds, tried a different GFX card and only 1dimm and the same thing happend.
Using same RAM as tom.f and a ASUS P5N-T Deluxe mobo
Re: Boot Up Problems - No Display.
I've encountered this problem before. Definitely need to clear the CMOS.
Check the mobo manufacturer on how to clear the CMOS
Re: Boot Up Problems - No Display.
I had some similar issues with my abit ip35 pro that needed a cmos clear. It wouldn't do it properly from the switch at the back or taking battery out and using the jumpers then battery back in. I had to leave the battery out with the reset cmos jumpers in position for a few hours to get it to reset. Once this happened then everything was ok.
Re: Boot Up Problems - No Display.
Is it normal for there to be no Post beeps?
Theres no connection for a speaker so im assuming the mobo has an onboard one like my other system. Contacted Scan now about a possible RMA but awaiting a response as its the weekend. Could it be the RAM at all?
Re: Boot Up Problems - No Display.
Monks just try clearing your CMOS as stated above.
Re: Boot Up Problems - No Display.
Ive tried, even just tried clearing the cmos for about an hour, still nothing
Re: Boot Up Problems - No Display.
Problem solved now!
One of my dad's friends had a look at it, cleared the CMOS a few times and turns out the other DVI port on the GFX Card displayed the BIOS afterall.
School boy error ey.
Thanks for peoples help anyhow!
