Random Abrupt shut down

Hi guys, Lately when i play games my computer would completely turn off without any warning, not even BSOD. And there seems to be a string smell from my PSU during intense load.

Is this definitive that the PSU is at fault or should I check my memory first if this is whats causing it. It cant be the cpu,memory or mobo as they are all new and it seems to be perfectly stable when i run prime95 and all that.

List out your full spec, load temps and OS and then we might be able to help you

Without any further information, it sounds like one of 3 things:
- faulty PSU
- overheated components (mobo/cpu)
- faulty mobo

Most likely faulty PSU if it is unbranded or cheap

i would work out faulty mobo and overheated components. I guess its time to buy a new PSU... this ones a very old antec psu which i got 2nd hand (400w)

it seems like its my PSU because its only under heavy load that this happens.

So i have decided to buy a PSU, and for some odd reason i have an OCD to get a modular one, which one of these should i get?

Enermax liberty
Corsair VX 550w
coolermaster real power m520
gigabyte odin

anything under £60 really or thereabouts... any suggestions?

The Corsair VX 550w is not modular.. the 520W HX is...
Given your spec, my money is that your PSU is not powerful enough... that is why you have this problem...
