    DVD drive missing

As some of you may know, I've brought my PC over to Germany since I'll be living here for the next few months. Seems to be working fine, apart from my DVD drive, it's not listed on My Computer/Device Manager/Disk Management, yet it's shown as connected to SATA port 1, on the BIOS

At first it wasn't even shown on the BIOS, so I thought it may be the SATA cable, swapped it for the one which goes into my 2nd hdd and when I tried to start the comp, I got "NTLDR is missing", so I swapped them back and the DVD drive was listed in the BIOS so I thought it's all OK. When the comp comes on however, it's not shown Anybody know any reasons why and any way to fix it?

    Cheers.

The ones on the disk at home, you mean...? Probably able to dl them actually.

Could that cause any other problems though?

    Re: DVD drive missing

Well I tried reinstalling the chipset drivers. No luck. It still shows in the BIOS and even when I go into safe mode, just not on the proper accounts. It even loads the CD in the drive when in safe mode, so there is obviously power going to it and the PC is recognising it's there, it just doesn't show up!

I'm lost as to how to make it show, so, any other ideas? :/

    Re: DVD drive missing

One thing you can try is unplugging the cable, booting into Windows so that it realises it's not there, then rebooting with the cable plugged in. This should hopefully trigger a "Windows has found new hardware" message.

If that doesn't work, try the Add Hardware wizard, and manually add the drive back in, either via the "Have Disk" (and downloaded drivers) or "By Device"

None of that seems to work :/ I reverted to using the IDE cable (it's an IDE device, using an IDE - SATA converter into a SATA port) and it works, so I guess I'll stick with this for now. Strange though as I've had it running like that for a year with no problems and even stranger that it shows in safe mode but not on normal mode. Oh well, technology!

    Cheers
