    Overclocking my Intel Q6700 query..

I am new at the Overclocking thing, and was wondering if someone could walk me through the basics on how to do it, if there are apps that will do it for me, if there are any sites that show safe thresholds for various CPUs, etc.. my system is

    Intel q6700 cpu
    Asus p5E mobo
    geforce 8800 GT graphics card
    ESI Juli@ soundcard
    4 WD 500g SATA hdd
1 160g seagate hdd for OS
    8G OCZ DDR2 RAM

any help would be great...I would like to get it to around 3ghz or so...right now I believe it is at 2.67?

I saw some topics on it, yes..but none centered around my cpu. I notice you have the q6600, are there any guides in here based around that?

    Thanks much , Blitzen
ok..I got up to the point where I changed the FSB speed to 300, and ran memtest86, 0CCI and Prime 95....memtest and OCCI gave no errors, but prime gave me a rounding error on the 4th thread..

any insight as to why? prime didnt crash it, the temp was fine...just got a rounding error.

Re: Overclocking my Intel Q6700 query..

What VID is your quad? Try bumping up the vCore a notch to see if it gets rid of the Prime error.

When I overclocked my Q6600 I just sent straight to 333, primed it and it was stable so then just went up to 400 with a multiplier of 8, found it would giving rounding errors in Prime so just kept upping the vCore till it was Prime stable, had to up the vCore to 1.3 in the BIOS in the end. I then sort of lost interest and plus 3.2GHz was plenty fast enough for me.

[QUOTE=IAmATeaf;1386921] is that the VID for your CPU or the range you can vary in your mobo BIOS.

    Intel® Core™2 Quad Processor Q6700 - SLACQ
that is the range for my cpu.. (which is what you were asking for, I presume)

Was actually after your actual VID, run up coretemp and it should show you.
