    Routing / Switching Question

    Ok.

I have 4 computers connected to my 4 port router, wired obviously.

In my room i have my xbox and my PC. When i want to use xbox live i have to unplug my computer and plug in the xbox and vise versa.

I have a unused netgear router lying around collecting dust, Is there any way that i can use this as a switch?

Connecting the wire that comes from my main router into it then giving access to that connection to both my xbox and pc that are also wired into that router?

Or will i have to purchase a switch to enable me to do that?

    Cheeers

    Re: Routing / Switching Question

Yes, you can do this. I used to run a couple of routers cascaded just fine.
Connect the cable that you are currently unplugging all the time into one of the switch ports on the netgear, leaving you three ports to plug in your pc, xbox and whatever else.
Turn off the dhcp and set the IP of the 2nd router to be in the same subnet but outside of the 1st ones DHCP pool to avoid IP address clashes.
