Transfer bootable CD to USB?
Hi there.
I'm currently using various bootable CDs which have hard disc imaging software.
However, it's a pain carrying the CDs around, especially when I have the USB hard drive which will store the images with me.
Note that the CD image is a small linux based one, and not a BartPE or Win PXE or other. It's a "DOS based" bootable jobby.
So, simple question: is it possible to migrate a bootable CD iso image onto a USB stick?
I've tried the various excellent freewares (mkbt) but no luck because despite being able to extract the boot sector from the CD, when I stick it on the USB stick, it seems to corrupt the FAT (16) file system.
The closest I've found that appears to work is Flashboot, but it's not free.
Re: Transfer bootable CD to USB?
yes, I had the same problem as you not that long ago and researched the matter. You can use a free utility from HP - the file is hosted with instructions of different methods at bootdisk.com here: Boot From A USB Flash Drive
I hope that helps :)
