    RAID Controllers

I am looking to purchase a RAID controller for my new PC.

I don't want to use my MOBO's onboard RAID as i am using all my SATA ports already for storage.

Am looking at really just doing a RAID1 set up so a 2 x SATA controller would be best. Although if anyone can reccomend a good cheap 4 x SATA controller that would be great for potential expansion later on.

Have been looking at one's from Adaptec, Highpoint and was wondering if anyone had any experience with them? The Adaptec one i have been looking at is here:

Adaptec 1220SA 2-Port PCI Express x1 Serial ATA RAID Card - Single - Ebuyer

And the one below appears to be the same one but £10 more expensive????

    Adaptec RAID 1220SA - Storage controller (RAID) - 2 Channel - SATA-300 low profile - 300 MBps - RAID 0, 1, JBOD - PCI Express x1 - Ebuyer

I have a vacant PCI slot or a PCIe x 1 slot on my board but nothing else. Am unsure which route to go down to get best performance.

Will probably use the 2 x 250GB Seagate drives that i have for this as well.

any advice will be greatfully received.

    Ta.

the PCIe card. should increase the useful lifespan of the card as well as we start to move away from pci.
