videora works well for converting videos to my ipod. I still use an old version, because the new one has this crappy web interface....

Convert AVI to iPod compatible MP4
something liiiike.. that?
dont be thinking you can "downsize to mp4" though. you have bitrates to for both audio and video to consider here. changing from one format to another wont be the answer.
was a really good proggy (by microsoft?!) that i used to use for conversion for a 320x240 pda a long time ago. all done automagically for whichever kind of device you specified. sure someone will come along with a name.. kind of plain looking, google is being no help

There's a program I use to convert DivX AVI files to MP4 for my Blackberry called Super.
SUPER © .
This is the most fantastic program as it will convert any video file format to any other.
And it is free!!!!!
But on a serious note, plenty of these open source library projects do need a good front end, and given the way most users perceive a program, its the front end they remeber, even if the engine is twice as fast.Cheekycheekycheeky

throw new ArgumentException (String, String, Exception)
oh, i agree. i would do dvd ripping (if it were legal) on the wife's windows pc - not only because it has a better cpu, but because i can't work out which command-line flags produce valid mp4 files my consoles will play back, and none of the linux guis have anything as useful as a drop-down box to pick an h264 profile mode.
try pocketdivx
might work for you. very cool interface.
