Monitor + KVM switch = infuriating problem

Right, this is driving me insane.

I bought a Belkin KVM switch2 USB, it arrived yesterday. And for the first hour it worked perfectly. The two systems I have attached involve a HD2900XT 512 and the other a 7800GS 256. The 7800 seems to run it no bother at the monitors (a 22" Acer thingy) native resolution of 1680x1050. The 2900XT system on the other hand, ran it fine for a while then after a restart decided to bump the screen resolution to 1440x900, but kept the desktop size at 1680x1080 resulting in the need to scroll around the desktop. A change in the resolution brought it back down to 1440x900, but it looks rough compared to the native one.

It would be alright if the 7800 system had this problem as it's only used for media streaming and network storage, but here I am.

I've reinstalled the drivers for the 2900, updated the drivers, changed all the settings (both in CCC and the normal desktop properties), reverted back to default, swapped the KVM switch leads around and still no luck. I really have no clue what is going on. I didn't change any of the settings before this happened. Just restarted the PC

I was in the process of typing this thread out yesterday when I got distracted and then after several restarts it worked fine. But now I'm back to where I began and it's driving me mad. Funny thing is, At the minute im on 1600x1200, which the monitor squeezes in to fit, but it won't 'squeeze' in 1680x1080, I've tried forcing the resolution with CCC but it still brings it back to the original scenario. I restarted 5 minutes ago and I had a 1440x900 desktop on a 1680x1080 monitor resolution, resulting in a black border.

Any ideas why this is happening? It's probably something simple that I'm overlooking but I really have no clue. I don't really want to have to restart my PC a good few times until the right resolution appears

Jeez, as soon as you post a thread then you realise (or at least think you realise) what is going on.

I think it was something to do with the 2900XT not recognising the display through the KVM. I've saved a CCC profile so hopefully that'll work
