Clean format/instal = cant recognise ethernet

Morning all, Ive jsut reinstalled windows but when i downlaod the network drivers for my abit at8 motherboard it jsut doesnt do anything. Now on the site there are no chipset drivers for this board and when i bought it off biff, he said there isnt any.

So do i need some generic motherboard drivvers or something?

I tried installing some nfroce 4 drivers but that didnt do anything either. Ive been using the pc fine for the last 12 months.

    Any ideas all?

Or could u link me to what i need

    Thanks

Re: Clean format/instal = cant recognise ethernet

The AT8 is not an nForce board, so those drivers wouldn't have helped much; it's an ATI chipset, uses the RD480 (Crossfire Xpress 1600/AMD 480X)

For XP 32 Bit: AMD GAME Drivers & Tools
64-bit: AMD GAME Drivers & Tools
MCE: AMD GAME Drivers & Tools
Vista 32-bit: AMD GAME Drivers & Tools
Vista 64-bit: AMD GAME Drivers & Tools

Product details: Universal abit > Motherboard, Digital Speakers, iDome, AirPace, Multimedia
Manufacturers driver page: Universal abit > Motherboard, Digital Speakers, iDome, AirPace, Multimedia

    Hope that helps.

Understandable - after reading the model number on my new motherboard here at work (thanks, Asus), I've come to the conclusion that anyone who comes up with a name like "P5N32-E SLI" is choosing names by throwing a load of Scrabble tiles in the air and using the ones that land face up - oh, and needs slapping. Hard.

thanks forthe awfully productive reply there ben, but this mobo has been working perfect for 4 years. Its obviously a software issue

OK, can I just check whether you're installing XP or Vista and of which flavour, please?

Re: Clean format/instal = cant recognise ethernet

you installed "Realtek Gigabit Lan Driver" from nichomach's final link, yes? It's not part of the ATI driver pack, since it's not an ATI network card.

or a newer version from Realtek

Re: Clean format/instal = cant recognise ethernet

Good point; you'll probably need the Southbridge support from the chipset drivers to get the PCI bus working properly to talk to the onboard NIC, and then the NIC driver itself to use it.

Gigabyte is worse! When I was looking at bords about a year ago I just couldn't remember the GB ones - M2A-VM HDMI is much easier.
