See if there is anything that sort of take overs the DVDROM, for example EAC. There are **** load more, perhaps malware or some sort of copy protection rootkit :S
See if you can boot windows setup disc from BIOS, that should tell you if it is really your DVDRW which is broken.

Have you got much free disk space on your HDD. When mine ran out of space, it went all spako, and displayed my two DVD/CD drives hard disks, which had 0mb of space, even when there was a disk in them![]()
wierd... can you guys give me links to drivers for these as suddenly their flagged with exclamation marks in device manager.wierd seeing as from a clean install i never had to install them and now they've gone silly.haven't installed anything for ages either:S

Those are firmware upgrades - not drivers
You might want to try running a driver detection program?
They identify the hardware/drivers currently installed, advise of any updates available, and even provide links to the updates.
Unfortunately however, you need to buy the product, before you can actually download them, but they'll at least help you find the drivers you need.
There are a number of programs available. Google Driver Detective, Driver Agent, and Drivers Update![]()
