Computer didn't post, RMA'd, new one doesn't either
Hi,
To keep tis very brief. I had a computer (Shuttle barebone system - case/mobo/psu), it just one day stopped working so I RMAd it and got a new one. Put everything back in it and it ran happily for 6 months. In exactly the same fashion it stopped again so I RAMd it a 2nd time, got the new one and it ran happily for 2 weeks before dying. 3rd RMA and the new one has arrived and will not post first time around.
I have obviously at every step tried 1 stick of ram or just nothing connected and nothing comes out of it. So basically my question is what can I do, or will I literally just have to throw away the £350 shuttle, Q6600, my ram and gfx on the grounds that something in there is causing this?
Many thanks for any advice, I have nowhere else to turn now.
Tim

do you overclock? What is the PSU rated to? What kind of temps where you getting on both the CPU and the graphics card? Do you get any beeps,? If not boot with no ram at all and see if it beeps, is the graphics card fan running at full speed all the time?

Hi,
It has never been overclocked, none of the components ever have. The PSU is rated 400W (but a Shuttle 400W can handle SLi top end cards with the fastest Quadcores so that's not a problem). Temps I would have no idea, I've never played around with that kind of stuff just let it go normal but I would guess it's not very high being that it's a Shuttle and reletively cool components.
It does not beep at all, but then it didn't when it's working either? With no ram in the same thing happens.
The graphics card does what you expect it to do, whirs up loudly on boot but quietens in a few seconds and then stays very relaxed.
Thanks for any help you can give!

Normally when a system is dead the graphics card fan spins at full tilt. are you using DVI or VGA?
reading through the net there looks like a lot of people have had a lot of issues with the Shuttle SP35P2. Q6600 seem to kill them!
Re: Computer didn't post, RMA'd, new one doesn't either
If the system is dead the graphics card will not spin at all if the PSU is dead too. Another RMA is what needs to be done.

Hi,
Thanks for the advice, I have tried everything on both DVI and VGA in every possible combination with adaptors and things.
Although I think what I will do is send it back via RMA to eBuyer again, and then get a different model and see what happens.
Many thanks,
Tim

Same thing happened to me this morning on a similar system. No overclocking or fancy setup -- nothing maxed out. Temps all looked good.
I'm wondering, what components did you RMA? Just the Shuttle, or what about RAM, CPU, etc. ?
Thanks!
Tom

Do you use a surge protector with the system?
Re: Computer didn't post, RMA'd, new one doesn't either
It is on a surge protector ... do you think something may have got zapped?
The CMOS reset button on the back of the case sure is convenient. If only that helped! :embarrassed:
