    Help please some advice needed

    Hello all

My nephew bought his pc last night to me saying it didnt work, i had a look at it and i cant turn the swine on, i have checked all connections and nothing, i am guessing two things. The psu or motherboard, The question is i dont know which one it is and i dont have another psu to test it, the psu is a thermaltake toughpower with the total watts viewer, on the front it states 10w, so does that mean it's still alive? The motherboard is a dfi lanparty one, on the motherboard it has the green led on, like its in stand by mode, any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any help

Are you sure the on/off switch is intact, if it had been pushed extremely hard, may have broken, you could try bypassing the switch and touching two wires together, just to check that this is not the case.

Pull the PSU out of your system and try it in his, only take 5 mins to do. At least that way it will narrow things down a bit.

Re: Help please some advice needed

Those TT PSUs are pretty nasty so if its hardware failure, then i would say that is the likliest culprit.

Before you pull everything apart though, make sure everything inside is plugged in correctly like cables/cards etc.

Im not trying to be funny but its amazing how often this is the cause. Look for the obvious first

Just made me think, once I had a faulty cable between the plug and the PSU, where one of the connectors in the cable had gone, It could always be this.

Re: Help please some advice needed

    Hello again

fellow computer master's, i have found out the problem, thanks to you guys for the help, the first thing i did, (eventually) was pull out the psu and replace it with mine, then i remembered the dfi board has those (fantastic) power and reset buttons on the motherboard itself. (so luckly didnt have to mess with the power switch itself) so i just hit the power button and hey presto, It was alive!

Thanks again guys appreciate the help, and thanks to all who helped.

P.s the thermaltake psu, still shows signs of life, that really was confusing as i thought it would be completely dead, well it is dead but not 100% lol
