    Unhappy No Sound!

    Hello,

I've got an oldish computer running Windows XP and an oldish Creative Audigy Sound Blaster sound card. I have tried everything I can think of to get the sound working. I have uninstalled drivers, reinstalled drivers, tried onboard sound driver (without the SoundBlaster - even that doesn't work!), tried combinations of drivers (don't ask). I've tried some random volume settings as well (turning off digital output reboot then vice versa - still no good). I have made sure that the speakers are working by testing them on a laptop with working sound.

Is there anything that I am missing?

    Re: No Sound!

check control panel>sounds and audio> and have a look at what the default playback device is, should be set to the audigy..

and whilst there, check the volume settings are not muted or set really low, check the advanced setting on the volume tab. and check the advanced speaker settings are set to the correct type of speakers...

and are you plugging the speakers into the correct socket on the soundcard?, i had my rear speakers plugged into the mic socket for 2 months by following the supplied picture guide with my audigy2 ZS..

if that doesn't work then the only thing left is this...

    uninstall all creative drivers
open up pc and move the audigy to a different pci slot - try the one at the bottom of the case.
    reinstall drivers

this is because of something i found out with my audigy2, irq conflicts - it doesn't like being in certain pci slots on nforce mobos, either of the bottom 2 will be ok and should work, i think this affected the onboard sound aswell - I'm not going to move my card and check though..

    Re: No Sound!

IIRC there's a setting inside the BIOS that you have to tick to disable onboard sound and switch it over to a card instead.

    (\___/) (\___/) (\___/) (\___/) (\___/) (\___/) (\___/)
    (='.'=) (='.'=) (='.'=) (='.'=) (='.'=) (='.'=) (='.'=)
    (")_(") (")_(") (")_(") (")_(") (")_(") (")_(") (")_(")

    Re: No Sound!

Thanks both of you for your input. Lucio got it spot on though. I had to disable the onboard sound in bios.

Now i've got the sound working, it isn't very loud. I've made sure all the volumes (including the hidden ones under the advanced tabs) are at max but the sound is still very quiet!

    Any ideas?

    Re: No Sound!

Sometimes that can be down to your sound setup being 5.1 rather than 2.0 (or another combination). Have you looked in Control Panel -> Sound and Audio -> Speaker settings Advanced and tried fiddling with the options there?
