    bios problem ???

about 3-4 days ago I find that each time I start up it takes me 3 attempts to get past the BOIS onto vista 64 ultimate!

The first attempt stops after listing the CPUs (correctly as quad @ 3.10ghz / 997mhz fsb) - i have to manually switch off.

The second attempt lists the CPUs at normal FSB (800mhz) so 2.40ghz - but after about 10 seconds continues showing mem reading etc then says that there was a POST request or something and that I should load default settings and reboot - I have to manually switch off.

Third attempt is shows CPUs at 3.10ghz and after ten seconds mem fine carries on to load windows vista 64 sp1 (as of about 3 days ago).

So Im a little lost as to whats going on! As this was configured by scan (its a white cobra btw!) I dont really want to fiddle with the bios settings. the mobo is a striker ii, the mem is 4gb corsair, cpu quad 6600 g0.

    Help?!

    Re: bios problem ???

    What is the POST message?

It is unlikely to be a BIOS (or CMOS) problem unless you have changed the settings yourself, and the computer has worked OK up to now. More likely is a hardware problem, so the resultsa of the POST test might be significant (You can pause the OST sequence by pressing the pause key during stat up).

If you feel compelled to reset the CMS, it would be worth going into the BIOS set up pages first to see what the configuration settings are - write them down, screen by screen. The enxt step would be to reset the settings to the default value - there is usually an option to do that - and see if that fixes the problem. The next step wpould be to clear out the settings by resetting the CMOS memory (the mobo manual will tell you how to do that - it usually involves moving a jumprer on the mobo) and that will also restore the defaults on next start up.
