Urgent Help Needed - PC powers up but no display

OK here goes - my PC was working fine last night. I came to boot up this morning and all the light came on, I heard the usual noise etc but nothing was displayed.

I opened up the case to look at the bios code (Abit AN8 32X) and it was showing as FF. I reset the computer - still nothing so I powered back of, reset the CMOS and tried again. This time I got 7F but still no display so I pressed F1 and again I got to FF with no display. I removed everything bar the graphics card, 1 memory stick and 1 hard drive and tried again. Still got 7F then FF.

I have swapped 4 different memory sticks which had no effect. My initial thought is that my grafix card is goosed but I am hoping that one of you good people may have a solution.

    Thanks.

Re: Urgent Help Needed - PC powers up but no display

What O/S do you have installed?

if you have XP and havnt disabled the startup sounds then plug some speakers in and turn the computer on, if you hear the sounds then the GFX card is likely to be borked.

Also, you could try a different gfx card in your system (i.e. borrow 1 from a friend)
and try your card in a different system, or/and a different PCI-E slot on your mobo
but without full system specs, it's hard to help

edit: bah, you've posted full specs now

Well I've plugged the speakers in and got a startup noise. Looks like its a trip out to buy a new card :-(

    just to eliminate other possibilitys...

can you try somone elses card in your machine?

or do you have another PCI-E slot to try the card in?

does your mobo have onboard VGA/DVI?

    just to make sure...

Re: Urgent Help Needed - PC powers up but no display

Unfortunately I don't have another card to try and although there is another PCI-E slot the card won't go in as the PCI slots hit the heatsink!

Another funny things is that I have just shut the PC down by pressing the power putton. I heard the windows sounds again as it was shutting down. Then when I press the power button the system hangs with code 9.0 which abit says is 9.0. - complete Uguru initial process.

Re: Urgent Help Needed - PC powers up but no display

    hmmmmm, unsure now...

have a look HERE, but that was on a new build... and he had a display output...

theres a guy HERE that is having the same problem and has no output...
it could be a PSU issue... but i would normally rule that out straight away because your using a good PSU...

    have you tried clearing CMOS?

Yeah clearing the CMOS is the only way to get it to boot to 7F then FF. This is doing my head in now!

Oh forgot to say, I can access all my shares etc from my PC on my laptop so it appears windows works normally once it boots up.

Re: Urgent Help Needed - PC powers up but no display

Update - I've purchased a new graphics card (XFX 8800GT Alpha Dog edition) and it turns out the top PCI-E slot is bust. I still needed a new card though as the 7950GX2 wouldn't fit in the second PCI-E slot.

So new card installed, everything plugged back in and working again. No thanks to the unhelpful Abit post codes that don't really tell you anything.
