    No sound!

Right my dad went a bit bad when he removed some of his work files. In the process he removed the sound program from the add/remove section.

I have tried to reinstall it with no luck. I would use the pc cd but as this is his old work pc we don't have that discs. In device manager there is a warning sign over multimedia audio controller (which guess is the sound driver) I have search through google but not had that much luck.

The pc is an IBM ThinkCentre (not sure what one), its motherboard model is: GA-8S661XM, chipset- SiS

Can anyone help with getting the sound driver back and also explain all the steps.

    Thank you!

    edit: more info-

    Processor- intel pentium 4
    code name- prescott
    package- socket 478 mpga

You don't, but it says it's compatible with your chipset. Make a system restore point before installation and roll back if it doesn't work.

Doesn't it have a label on the back? Can you run something like www.belarc.com to get the model?

    Re: No sound!

All i can find is the motherboard model is: GA-8S661XM and on the back of the pc it has- product ID S/N: 813916QLY00QR5 0508 (i think thats it)

I want to make sure have the right driver before i dl anything. If i got onto another pc like this one that is still in my dad's office, would i be able to copy the audio file and put it on this one? woudl that work?

    Re: No sound!

Unlikely, the drivers will put registry entries etc in place.

If you run dxdiag that might give you the model number.

    Perhaps you can use this?

    http://www.zhangduo.com/udi.html

From the hexus; "All new Software Sticky ( with Wings !! )"

Never used it myself but it looks like it will identify devices and source drivers for you?

    Re: No sound!

You may have already tried this, but if it's a windows operating system have you tried running system restore to get it back.

I've spent ages manually setting up lost settings and software when a simple system restore would have done the job.

    Just and idea.

    Re: No sound!

Right got some pics of info about my home pc system,. I have tried to look for the correct 'multimedia audio controller' ( as it says in device manager) but no luck.

Could someone see if they can find the correct one i need? Thank you!

    Re: No sound!

    HERE you go bud

GA-8S661FXM is a gigabyte mobo, so it makes sense to go to gigabytes site , although google-ing the model number brings up the skt775 version so you need to do a bit of navigating to get to it

but just download the audio drivers from the above link, install, and bob should be your uncle

that sounds like a bad download, so i would try downloading again before ruling it out.

and it wouldn't cause any harm in doing a restore point (you don't need to, but theres no harm in it)

if that one doesn't work second time around then try THIS link
