    Error code 0xc0000005

I can't boot into windows without Error code 0xc0000005 popping up. I have checked the memory which works in another rig. Apart from reinstalling windows, has anyone got any ideas?

The rig ony boots in safe mode and hangs with Error code 0xc0000005. I can't seem to get past this.

All help welcomed and thanks for looking.

access violation error, can often be caused by bad ram, yoink all the ram and try booting with 1 stick at a time and see what happens, might be worth running memtest86 as well

    Re: Error code 0xc0000005

0xc0000005 is an access violation. Probable causes:

    1. Bad RAM
    2. Virus
    3. Windows messed up

Run Memtest on your machine for at least 40 loops to see if there is anything wrong with your RAM.

Ram works in a diff machine, also swapped ram for a diff machine, have also tried one stick at a time. Is there still any mileage in running memtest?

Yes - memtest is a far tougher test (for example I have just had a machine that ran Windows XP OK - but failed Memtest)

The other machine that you tested iot in may not be running at the same clock speed, or the timings might be slightly different on the memory bus.

Memtest is free - so you have nothing to lose by running it - and if it passes you have eliminated one possible cause.

The actual program is called mem86+ , you download an image file which you burn to a CD to make a bootable CD - then boot off that CD.
