Whats the difference between full bridge and half bridge? and which is better?
In half-bridge mode the TA still presents itself to the PPPoE client (your routers operating system) which authenticates by proxy of the router to the ISP's PAP/CHAP server. In full-bridge mode the PPPoE client has a direct bridged link to the PAP/CHAP server.
So full bridge is better and quicker?
I'm still unsure as to which is 'better', but the connection should be *slightly* less latent in full-bridge mode, yes.
Thank you for your help, I have spend the last hour on google, and it seems that I can put the Linksys AM200 and Linksys WRT54GL together in full bridge mode with my ISP Be.
It looks complicated, but I hope once it is set up then I won't have to touch it again.
I am on Sky adsl, and get regular drop outs. Sky sent me a Sagem adsl modem though, but I dont know if that is the issue. I know someone with a Sky DG834GT, so gonna try swapping it over for a bit and see if that helps.
However, currently I do have a similar setup as to what you mention. The Sagem modem connected up to a WRT54GL (with Tomato firmware) which provides wireless for 2 devices and wired to my main PC.
Is there any specific settings I should be making? Essentially I have the Sagem router (x.x.0.1) setup to assign an ip via dhcp to the linksys router on x.x.0.2 and then the linksys assigns to connecting devices with x.x.1.100 - 1.102. Apart from that I dont think I have made any significant changes.
I have the AM200 too, it does a great job in full-bridge, I don't have to look at it and it works well with my custom router.
