How to boot to command prompt with SATA support?

I'm trying to make a bootable ghost dvd so that I can boot to one dvd and image a PC.

The DVD works on older PC's, but not on new ones that have SATA CD drives. Is there a way to make a DOS boot disc and add SATA drivers?

The PC's I will be using this on are all Intel motherboards.

Try this little prog for booting up if you are using a NTFS file system :

    http://www.freewarefiles.com/NTFSDOS...ram_11100.html

Then put this onto the disk and add the required line into the autoexec.bat file, it tells you he line on this page with the util :

    http://marktsai0316.googlepages.com/gcdromfordos

Using that combination you should be able to boot in a DOS environment with full SATA CD/DVD drive support.

Wow! That 2nd link is exactly what I was looking for! I already got it working, just have to work on the .bat file to fine tune it.

    Thanks for posting! VERY helpful!

Re: How to boot to command prompt with SATA support?

My laptop is showing NTLDR is missing and press CTRL + ALT + DEL to restart
I tried doing this and it goes back again to NTLDR is missing.
Im trying to reformat it and went to change the boot sequence from HDD to CDROM but when I press enter to CDROM it doesnt go to CDROM and when I try to SAVE and EXIT changes, nothing happen --it goes back to NTLDR is missing. How can I change the booting sequence so it will boot to CDROM and install a fresh XP? Any help will be much appreciated.Thank you

You should probably try starting a new topic so more people see your problem, you replied to my topic which isn't related.

Try hitting F10 or F11 during boot, should bring up a boot menu. It would totally depend on your brand of laptop though.

Also, if it lost your OS and is saying NTLDR missing, your hard drive may be going bad. Try running chkdsk /r at command prompt to scan for bad sectors.

Also, may want to try ghosting to a backup drive if you have one (maybe a longshot). Sometimes disk errors such as bad sectors don't show up in chkdsk. Ghost will report them.
