i'm not going mad here am i?
google checkout does do what paypal does with receiving money and sending it to my bank?
how do i do this as i'm familiar with paypal but how does it work on google? does it automatically go to my bank or what?

Cleared funds are automatically sent to your associated bank account. There is an option in there to set the frequency of payouts, eg. daily weekly monthly etc.

If you login to your GC account, then click 'settings' then 'financials', your incoming money will be sent to the account listed there. You can also change how often payouts will be made to your account via the drop down just below the bank account details.

Do they take as much as a premium paypal account in fees, paypal are getting quite steep

It's 1.5% + £0.15 per transaction with GC

Paypal is 3.4% + £0.20 per transaction. There are tiered rates with paypal though, so this can go down as low as 1.4% + £0.20, assuming your sales are at least 55k per month.
