Pc turns off, i change power cable and it works again

Well as the title says, my pc turns off like its run out of power, i switch the cable and it turns on, but when it happened again i switched it back to the original cable and it worked, so its not a cable problem :S i just bought a new power supply and motherboard and i dont know what the problem is, any help would be much apreciated!

could be a bad thermal trip in the PSU, they often have to have the mains cut to reset.

it could be that the thermal sensor has slipped out of place and has ended up somewhere hot. (basically what GoNzO said).. but if it's under warranty then just RMA it

I wont be the only one to tell you this but Ezcool psu's are well known to be rubbish. Before you do anything I would change that psu asap, as that psu is more then capable of damaging your components.

If you can tell us your pc specs we can advise you on what psu to get. Generally makes such as Corsair, FSP, Seasonic, Enermax are of good quality.

Re: Pc turns off, i change power cable and it works again

Well my friends been using one for a quad core 4gb of ram and an 4870 and its still working so i dont see the problem, anyway, i have an amd x2 6000+ 2 gb of ram a hd3850 300gb hdd space and a gigabyte ga-ma69vm-s2 motherboard.
Might be worth saying that my plan for this motherboard and psu is a short term one, im broke right now and my previous motherboard and psu gave up on me so i had to buy cheap components just to get it working until i get some money.

How broke are you? You can pick up a good quality psu nowadays for about £30.

There is no way to discount the PSU or any other component for certain without swapping them out with a known working one. That's the nature of trouble shooting I'm afraid

Having said that, there is no way that a EZCool should be in any system that's actually powered on. Ever.

    EZCool PSUs are excellent....

    for use as a doorstop.

Seriously, they don't hqave a good reputation, and if something is built down to a price, something has to give - quality of the components, quality of construcyion, quality control or all three.

Get a brand that is well known for reliability - Corsair, Seasonic, FSP (and others on the forum will have their own suggestions) and either keep the EZcool as a spare (or door stop) or if the replacement works, then RMA it, saying what you did - and ask for a refund.

The PSU is the heart of the computer - if it fails - it will probably fail spectacularly, and may take something something else with it. Why run the risk for the sake of saving £30 or so?
