No signal on Monitor, no POST beeps.
Hi there, I was recently installing some new parts on my mothers pc. Just updating it with my old parts cos hers were barely worthy for Win95 :P
Anyway, I've got it all together with 1GB of Value RAM, 80GB SATAII HDD, AMD Sempron 1.8GHZ processor and a Litescribe DVD/RW.
So I turn on the pc, no POST beeps at all, and you can hear the power going to the DVD drive fluctuating as the green light goes on and off.
I've checked all the connections etc can't SEE anything wrong, but these parts worked fine when they were in my pc, and have been sitting in they're proper packaging ever since i took them out my old setup.
Any replies/help would be appreciated. Thanks guys :D
Jonathon.
Re: No signal on Monitor, no POST beeps.
what PSU are you using? (i.e. make model)
Re: No signal on Monitor, no POST beeps.
Ahh never thought about that, durh. It's like a really ****ty old one, WinPower 400W
But it worked fine when I used all those parts, you think it could be blown, I also stucka Geforce 6100 256mb gfx card in there,
Re: No signal on Monitor, no POST beeps.
PSU definitely could be the culiprit, so see if you can get hold of another one to try. I've also had a system that displayed the exact same behaviour you've described and it turned out the RAM was DOA. Try removing the RAM and seeing if the motherboard will boot, start POSTing and then tell you there's no RAM installed. If that's the case then you might have fried the RAM with electrostatic discharge.
Hope this helps.
Re: No signal on Monitor, no POST beeps.
I was building few new systems over weekend & had the same problem...no post/screen. I was quiet suprised as in the end it was faulty CPU & it was brand new CPU.
Re: No signal on Monitor, no POST beeps.
check that the board is compatable with your sempron cpu...if its an OLD board then it may not be an youll have to flash your bios if a bios update will allow support for it
Re: No signal on Monitor, no POST beeps.
Another possiblity is your gfx card is blown. This happened to me on a recent build, I had decided that I would use the old gfx card in the new build for couple of months, then get a new one. Anyway, I insalled it in the new mobo, and no posts, no beeps no nothing, turns out that it was the gfx (which had been working fine that morning), so I got a 280gtx and everything was fine.
As you can tell by all the replies, it could be many things that are causing your problems, and it's hard to diagnose from afar. Basically you are going to turn detective, and try to eliminate causes in turn.
