problem with the computer!!! blue screen pop up and restart!
ever since i upgrade my asus p5b premium and a quad core 2.4 to a evga790iwith a quad core 2.66. i have mad problem with the computer. first i install one stick that contain 2gig on the motherboard. install the the vista ultimate 64bit os to it. everything work great. but when i install the second stick that come to the total of 4gig. a blue screen appear before i even get to the window. first thought there was something wrong with the ram. switch it around. work fine with the other gig running by itself. i mess around with the comp somehow and it work right now with four gig. and now the computer seem to be okay and running fine. but everyday at least 3 to 4 time a blue screen just pop up and then restart the computer by itself. i really dont know what the problem.
i wanna know what you guy think about that!!! please help me out?
Re: problem with the computer!!! blue screen pop up and restart!
Firstly you need the STOP error code on that blue screen - give us that and we can troubleshoot further but I'd put money on it being that you need to update Windows - there was an issue with running Vista with 4Gib installed on some hardware configurations that Microsoft issued a patch for. Do you have SP1 installed?

yes i have already install that and also update the bios for the motherboard. the stop error code that u was talking about. is there an example you can give me or where should i find it? thanks
Re: problem with the computer!!! blue screen pop up and restart!
The STOP code will be printed along with the other information on the blue screen. However, before we get to that try this fix first.
Go to THIS Microsoft KB webpage. Download the 64 bit hotfix (the link is on the page). Close your browser, install the hotfix, and reboot your PC. Then power down (shut down) the PC, and install the second memory/RAM stick. The PC should now boot with both sticks (4GB total).
If it doesn't, you may have a faulty RAM stick, or the voltages and timings may need manually entering into the motherboard's BIOS. One step at a time, though. We'll cross that bridge if/when we have to :)

yes i have try to install the service pack 1,but still the blue screen still pop up. so how do we manually adjust the ram voltage and timing? thanks
Re: problem with the computer!!! blue screen pop up and restart!
to change timings go into your BIOS (press del, esc, f2, or f1 on boot [usually]) and change the values of:
tCL (CAS)
tRCD
tRP
tRAS
i.e. on the side of the RAM stick will be a number such as 4-4-4-12
the first number is tCL the second is tRCD, third is tRP, and the fourth is tRAS
you also change the voltage in the BIOS find an option called vDIMM (or something along those lines) and change the setting that it is on to 2.1v, then exit the BIOS saving changes
someone else with your mobo will be able to give better pointers than me...
