Q6600 clocking itself down: Speedstep Disabled

I have an Intel Q6600 running in an ASUS P5Q-E, with 4GB of OCZ ReaperX-HPC currently at the default of the board which is PC2-6400, 5-5-5-18

I have noticed that the processor is clocking itself down, presumably to save energy from 2.4GHz to 1.6, by dropping the multi from x9 to x6 when it sees fit. I thought speedstep would be able to rectify this, however when I go into the BIOS I see that it is disabled- so is there some other power-saving feature on the P5Q boards that I'm unaware of? Any help would be much appreciated.

the asus six engine could be doing it, if installed. It is a power saving feature that runs in the system tray. I dont kno how it saves power though, because it doesnt work when the CPU is overclocked

I think that it isn't SpeedStep that's responsible for reducing the multiplier when the CPU load is low. I'm using a Maximus Formula Extreme and I don't know how similar your BIOS will be to mine but if you boot to the BIOS setup utility on startup and head to the 'Advanced' tab, there should be a menu option of 'CPU configuration'. Hit this up and make sure that 'C1E Support' is disabled. Save up, exit and boot to windows. Let me know how that works out for you.
