    Will this work?

I have a 1 year Dell desktop and wonderin if i could upgrade to this:

    ht tp :// ww w .newegg.com /Product/ Product.aspx? Item=N82E1681 9115052 (WIHTOUT SPACES)

    I currently have a Pentium D 2.80 Ghz, 305 Watt PSU, and.....socket LGA 775

Also would it even be worth it? for gaming?

    Re: Will this work?

what motherboard is in the PC as that proccy is a 45nm chip and a few boards are having problems unless you flash the bios to a later revision (even then it might not be compat, you need to check the mobo)

you may want to look into an aftermarket cooler aswell...

and yes IMHO you should notice a performance boost in games

download and run cpuz, then in the third tab (IIRC) it tells you the motherboard model

    Re: Will this work?

righty, you may have to wait for another guy to answer on the processor support side (or email Dell asking them?) as i'm a bit undetermined on support for 45nm chips on that board...

but a good (and cheap) aftermarket cooler is the xigmatec red scorpion s1283

also i would have a look at the e8*** series as you will notice more of a performance increase with those

what is the model number of the desktop (i.e. dimension 520 etc) as this will enable me to go digging for more info
