No beeps, no signal, no nothing

    Dear All,

I have recently built a new system consisting of:

    Q6600 CPU,
    Asus P5KC MB,
    WD 500GB HD,
    2 x 2GB Corsair XMS PC3200 DDR2 memory,
    an old WD IDE HD,
    GeCube 3850 graphics card,
    Sony DVD rewriter,
    450W Corsair PSU,
    Vista Ultimate 64 bit.

Everything was fine until the system started freezing during use. The first time it happened, I was watching a video using media player classic whilst transferring/opening some NZB files on a remote computer. The same problem kept happening whenever I did this procedure, so I changed it and everything was fine again. Then it occurred when I was just watching a video using media player classic, and so I restarted the computer. However, the freezing just kept happening over and over again, in every application. I looked in the event viewer and the same error appeared around the time of the freeze, which apparently has something to do with WMI and/or memory. The freezing kept happening and I had to keep restarting the PC, but now the PC won't even start. Now, when I switch it on, it immediately restarts without even reaching POST, and when it restarts it doesn't beep through the speaker and it doesn't reach POST.

I have tried disconnecting the graphics card and removing the memory, both of which should create beeps from the motherboard, but it just restarts with no beeps and does the same thing. I have also tried clearing the CMOS, but still nothing. The only thing I haven't done yet is reseat the CPU.

If anyone has any ideas of what might be wrong, and how to fix them, I would be very grateful.

    Thanks.

Have you tried the ram one stick at a time?
And yes, re-seating the cpu and cooler wold be wise, just to rule it out of the equation.

I did try the RAM one stick at a time, but the machine just keeps rebooting and then goes to nothing: when I switch it on, everything comes on as normal but there are no beeps; then just before it reaches POST, it reboots; after it reboots, everything comes on as normal again but there are no beeps and no POST, but the machine stays powered on this time rather than rebooting.

The only solution I have found on the internet is to get a new motherboard. Something I forgot to mention in my original post was the first PCI express graphics slot doesn't work, and I had to put the graphics card in slot 2 for it to be detected. I didn't think anything of it, but could this have been an indication of a faulty motherboard?

I will try to reseat the CPU next.

Tried re-seating the CPU and it is the same - no beeps, double booting and no POST.

    Bugger.

Well it does definately seem like a faulty board from what you've said. All you can do is send it back, downer.

For anyone that ever has the same problem, I solved it by getting a new motherboard and now everything is fine again.

Lol. Well, the lack of suggestions it did make my decision easier, and I didn't waste time trying to fix the broken mobo.
