New Build - Installing Vista on SATA drive.. Help!

Got my q6600 build pieces through today. Started putting it together at around 3.30pm. All built but havent manage to even install Vista on it as of yet Had to put my old build back together to make this post lol

    I'll keep it simple..

    Cpu is an Intel Q6600
    Mobo is a Gigabyte GA-P35-S3G
    Hard drive is WD2500AAKS
DVD-RW is an NEC something.. Connected to the IDE slot on the mobo.

    Problem is..
When at the 'select drive to install' page, of the Vista Ultimate 64-bit installation (after entering the serial), it says something along the lines of "Drives not found" and fails to display my SATA drive.
I've plugged it all in. Connector from PSU going to HDD, and a L-shaped sata connector to HDD and a the other end to SATA port 1 on the mobo. In bios setting it shows the HDD at the top location, and shows my IDE DVD-RW as the slave at the bottom.

Not sure of this is right.. But tried loading the drivers located in the "GSATA" folder on the gigabyte disc that came with the mobo, but in the folder there is only drivers for xp32 and amd64. These files both say they are incompatible.

Any ideas anyone? I got a feeling its some setting in the BIOS to change. Been trying to install it for the last 4/5 hours so any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Have you tried connecting the hd to a different sata port on the motherboard?

Noticed I haven't used a jumper on the HDD. Anyone know where the master jumper position should be on a WD25000AAKS?

Edit: found this but cant make any sense of it..

I don't think you need a jumper connection (Default 1) for the hd to work, however you can try putting a jumper on pins 1/2 (default 2) and see what happens.

you either need to provide the drivers (look on their website) for native sata mode, or can look in the bios and set it to ide mode.

Are you sure its the hard disk that isn't being detected and not the DVD drive?

I've never seen vista installed from an IDE optical drive connected to a JMicron controller when booting off of the Vista DVD.

If you can get hold of a SATA DVD drive to try, I would do so immediately.

Re: New Build - Installing Vista on SATA drive.. Help!

This is killing me!! lol knew I should have stuck with good old IDE.

I tried using a sata dvd-rw from my brothers dell machine, but didnt have that small 4 pin power connector from my corsair VX 450w. Bought one from here, should be here Friday I think, so hopefully that should work.

Is it really that hard to install Vista from an IDE dvd drive into a SATA HDD?!

Ment to click quote but you have been thanked anyway. I have installed vista off an IDE DVD rom drive, to a SATAII optical drive, on my P5Q PRO. It is plugged into SATA port 6, and set to IDE mode (as standard - I did not know what this did). It worked fine, try putting it from AHIC mode to IDE mode in the BIOS..

Can anyone tell me in simple terms it is suppose to be AHCI mode enabled, and the one below enabled too.. or?

Tomorrow going to try formatting and partitioning the drive from another machine.

I would disable AHCI, and then it will look to vista like a PATA drive, and work fine
