Need to track down the faulty part.

Built a new pc for a friend last week, and today it stopped working for no apparent reason today. I need to track down the part that's faulty;

Turn computer on; all fans work, but no power is sent over usb or ps2 (keyboard don't light up) and no image is displayed. I tried playing about with it a bit; swapping out ram/using different slots, but in the end I think it has to be either the CPU, the MOBO, or the PSU. Problem is that my case (coolermaster cm-690) doesnt have a internal speaker, and neither does the MOBO (Gigabyte GA-P31-DS3L), so I can't get any diagnostic beeps from the MOBO. I've ordered a seperate speaker for this but I'm not sure it will help anyway.

Oh and btw, I don't own any new pcs with compatible cpus/mobos so I can't narrow it down much more...

are you using a graphics card or onboard graphics?
if you're using a card and you have onboard graphics, try using the onbroad graphics..
this might work.

What Matty said and have you tried booting with one stick of ram?. Be a good idea to check all connections and try reseating the gfx card.

I would say that the Psu or mobo sounds like the two most likely culprits, as even without a video card, you should still have power available for mouse and keyboard.

Is it a 20 pin PSU or 24?. Perhaps trying a new or "good" psu would give you the answer. Could you post the mobo make and model.?

Sorry for rezzing this topic, but for those who have similar problems: It was the mobo's fault. Was overclocking a P31 mobo, and it just failed. Got it replace with a nice P35 and its fine.
