    Adaptec 5405

    Hey all, bought an adaptec 5405 recently and returning it because of the below problem, I'm just giving one quick shot at a solution on here before I send it back on monday.

    The card seems to boot up ok, I can get into it's bios. I was even able to flash it to the latest firmware but what it will not do is detect my hard drives.

    The drives are WD 640Gb WD6400AAKS. Using the card's "Rescan drives" option doesn't pick them up, it says "No drives" when selecting to make an array or secure clean them.

    Any ideas?

    Do the drives need to be formatted to be recognised? Not played with raid, so just a guess.

    Are ALL the drives working fine when using the motherboard SATA ports or via an external enclosure?

    What RAID setup are you going for? RAID 0?

    Hi, they don't need to be formatted, but I did try one of my PC's hard drives and it still wouldn't detect it.

    Re: Adaptec 5405

    JW: Yes all drives appear to be working, but generally I've been attaching one drive to the raid card to just get it to detect, then I can add the rest.

    I'm going to be going for raid 5, it will be in a file/web server.

    Re: Adaptec 5405

    Are you using the right cable?

    The SAS cable you have might be straight through rather than crossover. Check which type it is and try to get hold of the other one
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    Re: Adaptec 5405

    The 5405 came with a MiniSAS-4xSATA cable for connecting to a backplane or directly to drives. We did initially think it was the cable, so we had one couriered from span.com but that didn't work either.
