    Net Mini Disc

Hi there am new to this site so have probably started a thread in the wrong place.
My problem is I have a Sony Net walkman which i am really pleased with Model MZ-N710 my problem is I use the latest sonic software which transfers music from my computer to Mini disc with no problem at all.... Problem is when I try and play the disc in my Stereo system Sony MD DHC MD373 it reads the disc, plays, but NO Sound, has anybody got any Ideas as to what I am doing wrong .
Am I right in thinking that all Mini Disc players weather portable or in a stacker unit read the same !!!!
    Many thanks Peaches:

    Re: Net Mini Disc

Not all mini disc players are weather proof!

As for the playback problem, it may be a codec compatability problem. Mini discs encode music using a specific algorithm, however the minidisc itself is 'only' a storage medium, so it could be that if you are recording mp3 files, the mini disc records it as data, but your stereo doesn't understand mp3 files and thinks they are normally encoded mini disc audio files - and therefore cannot play them

I'm not familiar with your set-up, so this is only an educated guess.

Welcome to Hexus, by the way!

    Re: Net Mini Disc

Hi thanks Peter, It was nice of you to reply, I would have thought if my Sony DHC MD 373 (The stand alone stacking system didnt recognise the format would it still read the TOC and show titles, it even starts to count down as if it is playing but just the sound problem.
Are there any remedies that I can try so that I can boom my music out other than on my portable mini disc.
PS Thanks for the welcome, looks like I will be using you all quite a bit x

    Re: Net Mini Disc

I haven't used a NetMD for years, iirc music is encoded to ATRAC3 when you transfer from sonic to the MD player so it can't be a codec issue.

Sounds like a faulty unit to me, tried a different set of headphones?

    Re: Net Mini Disc

Hi thanks for your reply, its most odd the TOC reads all the titles play time and actually plays the MD but there is just no sound, I have just bought a job lot of MD's from E Bay being sold as back ups from somebodys MP3 collection and they all play fine..... I tried recording one of my MP3s it recorded from sonic stage (latest version) as sweet as a nut, plays back perfectly on the Net MD but not my 1997 poor old sony stand alone I am wondering if I upgraded the seperate MD player to a more modern one if it would work, but dont have a clue what to look for.
    Thankyou for your time,

    Re: Net Mini Disc

    Hmm.

In my hackerings with the old Net MD i never came across this problem, i'm guessing its only lately when you've been using the latest version of sonic stage that its become a problem?

do you have a copy of "simple burner" that you can use?

    http://www.minidisc.org/simple_burner.html

If they work fine with that, then it looks like the DRM fairy has paid a visit.

    Re: Net Mini Disc

It may be that your setting sonic stage to record is LP2,3 or 4 when your stereo only supports SP which is true for the earlier models.
