GA-EP43-DS3L and Dual Channel - Freezing
Hi Guys,
I've recently changed motherboards and found that when I have my Corsair 2GB XMS2 6400 ram in slot 1 and 3 of the GIGABYTE GA-EP43-DS3L the system freezes intermittantly. This s regardless of whether its in Windows or a utility such as memtest.
I know there's nothing wrong with the ram and I believe its compatible with the board however I can't get it to work in this dual channel configuraion. Putting the RAM in slot 1 and 2 works fine and runs for hours in memtest.
Is there something that I need to do with this board? I've manually set the ram voltage to 1.9 (the actual for the ram) as it defualted ot 1.8, and the latency is set right as defualt.
Does anyone have any experience with this board that could lend me a hand?
Regards,
John

Do you experience the same freezing issues if you duel channel is slots 2 and 4? If not I would suggest than your slot 3 is dodgy.

Hi There Webby,
When I ut the ram sticks in slot 3 and 4 I experience the same freezing issues.
I am also using memtest to verify and it freezes betwen 2-9% on the first test.

Re: GA-EP43-DS3L and Dual Channel - Freezing
Hi,
Isn't the required voltage 2.1V?
EDIT - Also which BIOS version are you running?
Re: GA-EP43-DS3L and Dual Channel - Freezing
Hey there Cairnsey.
The required voltage for my RAM is in fact 1.9.
I've recently flashed the BIOS to the very latest version with no different results.
Cheers,
John
Re: GA-EP43-DS3L and Dual Channel - Freezing
What frequencies/timings are you using?
Re: GA-EP43-DS3L and Dual Channel - Freezing
5-5-5-2 I believe...
The same model Ram is available in one other timing and I've tried it at that just to make sure.
Re: GA-EP43-DS3L and Dual Channel - Freezing
Edgemeister, did you ever test with the ram is slots 2 and 4 as I previously suggested?
From the fact that running in slots 1 & 2 is fine and running in 1 & 3 and 3 & 4 are not I would say slot 3 is potentially faulty.
Try a single stick of ram in one slot at a time to test this, if you get errors/freezing on any of the slots then send the board back if it is still under warranty.
Re: GA-EP43-DS3L and Dual Channel - Freezing
Hi Webby,
Apologies. My response to your suggestion was supposed to be that I tried it in slot 2 and 4, not 3 and 4.
The ram works fine individually in each slot.
From this I'm guessing that there must be something wrong with dual channeling.

John
