over heating or just a bad psu ?
i got a gygabyte m61pme-s2 mainbord, amd x2 5400+ dvd-rw, hard drive ,asus hd4750 ,and ez cool 650w psu, the pc is cuting out every now and again , cpu temps in the bios read 80c after it's cut out, there is no shutdown warning or temp to shutdown set, is this a psu issue or is it over heating ?
Re: over heating or just a bad psu ?
Have you tried reseating your CPU? Take it off, clean all the gunk off and re-apply a very thin amount and make sure it and the heatsink are firmly in place.
Re: over heating or just a bad psu ?
nope, but was talking to taktak in the irc chat and searching for ezcool on the forums and i'm thinking it's psu releated, also goign to order some TP and a new psu and probley a new cpu cooler (i'm useing the stock amd one)

I hate to say it but the EZCool PSUs are about THE WORST you can buy over here in the UK.
The heat issues you are having can also be caused by a bad PSU working flat out to produce little power.
Regardless of whether the cores are getting hot, the PSU needs to be changed asap if you value your system. :)

I've had 2 EZCool PSUs, they aren't the worst you can buy, I've had worse. Both of my EZCool PSUs came with 120mm fans, which should have made them quiet and well cooled. EZCool decided that both PSUs needed a piece of thin transparent plastic to cover half of the fan, just to make them extra noisy. Additionally, the second one had an extra piece of plastic to make sure one corner of the PSU got no air circulation through it, for added instability. Once I removed the special plastic baffles, they were both stable and quiet...

What's worse than an EZCool, I'd like to know :)
Seeing as there's been quite a few blowups of these and no actual review of them and what with their price you can only come to the conclusion that it's cheap piece of tat.
Re: over heating or just a bad psu ?
EZCool are nto known for their reliability or quality so there's your answer
to be honest when it comes to PSU's most the time you get what you pay for.
There have been alot of favourable reviews of Antec PSU's, but I have had2 and my friends have had 3 between them, unfortunately they all gave up the ghost so I can't recommend them.
I would say Corsair , Coolermaster and Seasonic are the best ones i have had.
Though i hear PC Power and Cooling ones are extremely reliable though abit noisier
I would check the CPU first just reseat it and smear the Thermal paste. If your PSu feels really hot then I would replace it, I would never skimp on the PSU in the first place though. It is a vital bit of kit no matter what people say :)
Re: over heating or just a bad psu ?
like i said on irc, when it shuts off, tap the heatsink, is it warm? (80c warm?)
if it isn't then it may be that the temp sensor is b0rked.
but that PSU does need changing... approx 10%of your PC budget should be spent on a PSU...
Re: over heating or just a bad psu ?
powered it down last night and felt the cooler and it felt warm, but just in case i got Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 PRO PWM , Arctic Silver V Compound , Corsair 520W HX V2 Series Modular PSU ;)

Honestly......they really ARE the worst you can get in the UK.
In the USA there are a few that are as bad but over here they really are 'El Cheapo' rubbish (and no...price isnt my reasoning).

Hmmm.
Corsair - Good if on a budget. Even though they are put together by Seasonic, i still wouldn't though. They just dont feel 'tough enough'. (and have cheap connectors)
Coolermaster - I wouldn't but each to their own.
Seasonic - Decent PSUs and i would buy one.
Antec would be a DEFINITE NO from me. Firstly, they had big rows with ASUS a couple of years ago about compatibility and just wouldnt hold their hands up.
Secondly, there was an ANTEC customer really blows.
I would buy:
Corsair - If i wanted to save a few quid, have a decent PSU and good customer service (although if it was not bought from Scan, the Customer Service comes into question as it has to be RMA'd to mainland Europe.
Enermax - The new modulars are second to none! You pay about 10% more for one over the Corsair HX520 (direct competition), but its WELL WORTH the extra.
PC Power & Cooling - My brother runs one of these and its AMAZING. Does get slightly audible at full throttle but it just ozzes quality.
Re: over heating or just a bad psu ?
Corsair are quality PSU's. I have had a couple for mates / family etc. Awesome is the word. Check around different forums and you will see how much praise they get.
Re: over heating or just a bad psu ?
80c that is running to high!!! When ever im doing big gaming/encoding it never goes past 34c,Ive just put a Corsair psu in and its better than my last crappy psu Hiper TypeR 580w
