Question Win 2k Pro vs quad core

I already have one of my PCs running Win 2k Pro on an E6300 CPU & it works fine for the office applications that I use it for.
I am considering fitting a Q6600 CPU that would become spare if I upgrade my #1 gaming PC.
QUESTION - What would happen if a Core 2 Duo Q6600 was fitted to a PC running Win 2K Pro?
My guess is that it would run but only ever use 2 of the 4 cores, but does anyone KNOW?

It will only use 2 cores. Win2000 server would see all 4 though I believe.

Thanks, I appreciate the replies. So I won't be bothering with putting a quad core cpu in that PC for a while.

p.s. I've seen the "thanked x times in x posts" bit on the left but how does one do the thanking bit when someone has been helpful ???

You can't yet. It requires a minimum of 25 posts. See the Post Counts and Rewards section in the FAQ.
