    Motherboard no display

Hi my friends computer has died. The motherboard is a Asus A8n-sli, memory 2 gig corsais XMS, enermax 600w PSU, AMD 4000+ CPU.

I have had the board set up with the basics. Mem, CPU, GC. It fails to display anything on screen at all. I have tried 3 PSU's with it aswell. Even if i just have the CPU installed there is no screen output. Tried Taking out bios battery etc but no luck.

Im drawn towards the Motherboard being dead.

What else could you suggest i try?

    Thanks rob

Looks to me like the right time to start swapping in known good components...

This happened to my mothers gigabyte mobo and it seemed to be the bios had gone kaput as it refused to flash and the cpu tested fine in another mobo.

    Re: Motherboard no display

As well as taking out the battery, did you clear the CMOS memory?

I recently flashed an ASUS 690G motherboard and it didn't come back up after flashing...

I was angry at myself for wanting the latest and greatest BIOS and had resigned myself to RMA'ing the board.

However, I cleared the CMOS (by shorting the appropriate jumper as well as removing the battery).

I also held down the DEL key when powering up... I tried this about 3 times, but it only worked and came back to life on the 4th time...

Thanks goodness! Saved myself from a lot of hassle...

    Re: Motherboard no display

Most modern Asus boards come with a utility to blind flash the BIOS back to the original version on the driver CD that came with the board - boot the PC with the disc in your CD drive (hopefully the BIOS is set to boot from CD!) and it will automatically re-flash. I can't be 100% sure that this would work in your case, but it has to be worth a shot.

Also most Asus boards from the past few years have soldered on CMOS chips, so having a new one sent out is rarely an option.
