I am regularly getting a mouse (Microsoft) that stops moving and freezes, generally when I am using Internet Explorer 7 (version 7.0.5730.11), but of late other programmes
The pointer locks and no combination of keys appears to unlock it
I have deleted the driver and re-installed (plug & play), but suffering the same issue now and again
Windows advises this is the most up to date driver
Any thoughts

Re: Freezing Mouse
When the cursor locks up can you still access your system using the keyboard (i.e. do shortcuts like Ctrl-Esc, or Ctrl-Alt-Del still work)?

Re: Freezing Mouse
And have you checked the eventlog for errors?

Re: Freezing Mouse
I had a frreezing mouse, and found that a couple of minutes on the radiator warmed it up a treat!! He he!
Seriously, batteries in a wireless mouse going flat? Interference with or too far from the wireless reciever? (Ignore if wired mouse)
Have you scanned for spyware/malware/viruses etc? Is it when a web page is showing flash or running a java app etc? As OiD said chech the eventlog...
Have you tried another mouse?

Re: Freezing Mouse
A friend of mine had the same type of problem with her wireless mouse/keyboard,she reckons it was the microwave that was causing it.

Re: Freezing Mouse
My mouse and keyboard were freezing the other day all the time, and I solved it by unplugging them (one USB), and pulgging in again. Dunno what was causing it, oxidation or something on the connector??

Re: Freezing Mouse
You need to determine whether it's the computer that is "freezing up" or whether it's a problem with the mouse.
As advised above, if the keyboard still works, i.e computer is still responsive, then it could well be a problem with the mouse.
If the whole machine becomes unresponsive then... where does one begin.. 1,000,001 reasons why that could be the case ;)
I've had problems with wireless keyboards and mice... If you have a cordless rodent, try resetting the connection between the receiver and the mouse - it might choose a different frequency that is less congested. I frequently have that problem with my Logitech mouse... But then again, I've got about three wireless keyboards and mice in close proximity...

Re: Freezing Mouse
been overclocking?
i noticed my mouse locking up after i overclocked my RAM a bit too far (lowered the timings too much) and the only way to fix it was to reverse the OC
