Monitors that dont want to wake up ??

recently at work and at home some monitors just dont want to acknowledge the pc has been turned on e.g. no display. this isent after sleep mode but from a cold boot

it has become annoying as I cant seem to pinpoint the reason. some of the pc are new some old and the same with the monitors (all LCD). I have changed gfx cards etc with some, but still this intermittent fault.

so there seems to be no pattern. all the machines and screens work 100% now and then, and are all different makes etc.

    any ideas?

    thanks

its purely from fresh power on start and they do go on into loading windows, just the failure of sometimes sending any display signal

How do you know? Startup sound?

What make / age are the systems? Things like this used to happen with the famous leaking capacitors that a lot of older motherboards were hit with.

Re: Monitors that dont want to wake up ??

Do you switch the screen on first then boot up your pc or do u boot up then switch on the screen?
i had problems with an old monitor which i assume sent corrupted EDID (extended display identification data) info to the graphics card when it was tuned off.
I found that it booted fine as long as i turned the monitor on first, and by swapping in my lcd after booting with the old CRT off i found that the gfx card was sending some crazy non-standard and way too high resolution and expecting the screen to handle it.

So try booting up with the screen already turned on
If this works, the easiest way to fix it is to get this little freeware command line app http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multime...ls/QRes.shtml#. Just make a a shortcut in your startup folder to
    "C:/[wherever you put it]/Qres.exe" /x 1280 /y 1024 /c 32 /r 85
and your resolution will be set to 1280x1024 85Hz 32bit after windows has booted up no matter what rubbish the screen is telling your pc to do!

    hope this helps
