Mic problem - Sennheiser PC 350 headset

    Hi

    PROBLEM -

when i turn the mic on, it seems to pickup audio from my CLOSED headset speakers and barley picks up my voice...

the Headset is the 5.1 PC 350 , so its suppose to be a real good set with apprently a great mic...

ive tried fixing this by adjusting settings in windows and my onboard "Realtek HD"

    possibly need a sound card?

if so any recommendations? i dont mind spending a few quid so long as it will do its job and improve my 5.1 headphones as they are really lacking bass

    Thanks
    Chris

its not a problem with the mic. Its a problem with most realtek sound systems. You need to mute the line in (I think) in your playback properties. If that doesn't work, just mute them one by one until your mic stops picking up sound from the headset.

This is why I always avoid motherboards with realtek onboard sound drivers. My friend had the same problem like this with his realtek onboard and sennheisers. While playing CoD4 I would chuck random nades and if they landed near him it would play through his mic over Ventrilo (if it was loud enough to overcome the Ventrilo auto-talk threshold), and that would help me locate his position. Great for me, crap for him

haha, I hate it when people don't use Push to Talk in ventrilo, it so annoying when their mom or girlfriend screams in the background while you're playing an online shooter.

For the OP, most sound cards are more trouble than onboard solutions. Get a USB DAC if you need a richer sound experience outta your rig
