    ATI X1950 Stops Responding

Hello I recently encountered this problem that I can only assume is caused by my graphics card (ATI Powercolor X1950 Pro). Sometimes when I'm playing a graphically intensive game, all the sudden the monitor will turn black and the light will start blinking. I can only assume that this happens because the monitor thinks it isn't receiving a signal anymore.

I thought that this might be heat related so I ran rivatuner along with 3dmark06 and the problem happened at 89 degrees Celsius. I don't think that temperature is too hot but I'm not sure.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hiya,

Well known problem for the card I'm afraid and generally relates back to the stock cooling solution, not being man enough on a lot of the cards, although I did have a couple of Powercolour ones myself with the accelero cooler and it did exactly the same to me with both cards, although one was more prone to it than the other.

Most people found the solution to be to download ATI tray tools and manually set the fan speeds as there was some suggestion that the fans don't actually increase as the temps rise. Alternatively add more cooling or reduce O\C (if you have done so) or add an aftermarket cooler.

89c is way to hot mate, you are at risk of damage to the gpu if you keep running that hot. You need to bring this down by 30-40c at least. Make sure you case airflow is good then think about a new gpu cooler.
