Re: Guide to fix hacked USB drives

Hi Peterb, I didnt buy this one on E-Bay. Once bitten twice shy. As a Matter of Fact this on came from Coventry in the UK and was send to me in Australia. After sending Details to Kingston I never heard from them again, which makes me think I have been dudded again, but I will try to recoop my Money through my Card Provider, it may take a While but it will come back.

Ah - sorry, didn't realise you were in Australia... Who was the company in Coventry? Might be worth followinhg it up with Kingston again.

Nice job getting your cash back on the first one.

The second one should be easier since its from a company and it was doa.
The shipping probably costs a bunch though.

Re: Guide to fix hacked USB drives

Hi merple, the last one i bought turned out to be a fake too. it worked for a little while and then stopped. now it tells me it is writeprotected when i want to format it, it is not from my computer, so it must be from the stick. any idea how to kill the writeprotection so i can format it? thanking you, regards dinkydy

Sorry dinkydy, I haven't had any experience with kingston drives.
There isn't a physical slider that locks write protection on the side is there?

Well now, here's a guide that I haven't seen before. Pretty concise too. Though, I don't plan on buying any flash drives from Hong Kong any time soon.

I'm afraid that if it isn't recognised by your computer any more then it is probably broken.

That H2testw data would suggest that 31GB of advertised memory doesn't physically exist.
If you have recently purchased this, then contact the supplier for a refund immediately.

Have you run chipgenius on your drive?

Re: Guide to fix hacked USB drives

    Hi All,

Does this only apply to USB drives or can SD cards be affected? Just I think I may have a dodgy one, not sure if the problem is a fault or a fake like these USB ones?

If you look on sosfakeflash there are some sdhc cards listed. So yes, this can affect sd cards too.
Did you purchase your card from a reputable retailer or get it on the cheap somewhere else?
