IDE drive in SATA system?
I recently put together a new pc to replace my old one, which was dying on me. I'd like to be able to access the data on the hard disks in the old pc, but the rest of the old pc is too broken to hook it up to a network or basically do anything meaningful with it.
the asus mobo in my new pc came with plenty of male-molex-to-female-sata converter power cables, but I need (and cannot find anywhere) the opposite... does such a thing exist or are the voltages etc not compatible that way around? And is there such thing as an IDE/SATA converter?
So, what's the best way access the old IDE hard drives with molex power connectors using my new pc which only has SATA data/power cables (without paying for specialist help)?
Thanks everyone :)
Re: IDE drive in SATA system?
You could buy an IDE controller card as a simple solution.
Re: IDE drive in SATA system?
I'd be _very_ suprised if your new PC didn't have normal 4-pin molex power connectors, what make/model is the PSU?
There is such a thing as a IDE/SATA convertor but I'd say you were best off getting an external ide to USB convertor as they're quite handy.
Re: IDE drive in SATA system?
thanks guys, the usb converter looks like the way forward here :)
Re: IDE drive in SATA system?
I'm actually in a very similar situation after a long period without a working home PC...
I've recently upgraded to a dual core / SATA system, but still want to use my IDE hard drives as backup.
So I found that you could either get an external caddy that allows you to connect your IDE drive to a USB port.... or my preferred option is probably to get a "USB to IDE & SATA Adapter" so that I can keep all the drives inside the case..

Re: IDE drive in SATA system?
Use the old IDE ribbon cable from your old PC and plug it into the PATA port on your mobo? and your PSU should have molex connectors
